My favourite musicians are the musicians who listen while playing and react immediately.
My greatest challenge is ongoing: showing everyone that the double bass can be a soloistic instrument and can hold its own in the musical world.
Who or what inspired you to take up composing, and pursue a career in music? Initially and very much, my father, who was a talented “evenings and weekends” composer. He let me develop the mindset that there could be a “composer” within the walls of one’s own house, not just adorning the pages of history…
Love music and let yourself be intoxicated by art.
As well as musical influences, everyday life and occurrences influence me. What I bring to the stage is not only my performance and understanding of the music, but my personality, experience and perceptions. The work I do is affected by everything I encounter and perceive. So I go to lots of concerts and meet lots of different people, and generally feel open to new possibilities.
The greatest pleasure comes from being a living breathing artist. From playing live, connecting with and making an audience laugh and cry. It’s what I always wanted… to connect. I remember my father telling me that if I my job was the thing I loved most in life, I’d be the luckiest person alive….
