Isabel Villagar, singer

Who or what inspired you to take up singing, and pursue a career in music?
I used to sing since I was little and the school music teacher encouraged my mother to study music. I sang everything that went through my ears. I was very happy singing and from an early age I knew that I wanted to be in the world of music.
Who or what have been the most important influences on your musical life and career?
My teachers: Montserrat Caballé, Luciana Serra, Francesca Roig, Wolfram Rieger and Alba Rosa Forasté and my inspirational researchers Johann Sundberg, Ingo Titze and Robert Sataloff.
What have been the greatest challenges of your career so far?
I have enjoyed very much singing Spanish music in Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain (when I live) and Germany.
Which performance are you most proud of? 
My debut singing the Messiah in Barcelona. It was very amazing.
Which particular works do you think you play best?
I love all kinds of music and I especially love the “zarzuela” and popular Spanish songs by composers such as Rodrigo, Toldrá, Mompou, Montsalvatge, Falla, Granados, Albéniz, Turina…
Who are your favourite musicians?
Barbara Streisand, Freddie Mercury, Whitney Houston, Rachelle Ferrell, Marcelito Pomoy to Montserrat Caballé, Luciana Serra, Miguel Fleta, Pilar Lorengar, Tomas Kauffmann, Elly Ameling, and in other kind of musicians: Rocío Jurado, Nino Bravo, Luis Miguel or Carlos Gardel… I like many genres of music. Good music is good music whatever the genre
What is your most memorable concert experience?
I will always remember Mahler’s 10th Symphony played by the Berlin Philarmonic  Orchestra with Simon Rattle, in the Berliner Philarmonie. It was magic and an amazing experience full of sensibility, emotion and beauty.
As a musician, what is your definition of success?
For me, success is being happy wherever you are.
What do you consider to be the most important ideas and concepts to impart to aspiring musicians?
The musician’s career is long and I advise you to have a great pleasure along the way.
Where would you like to be in 10 years’ time?
I’m actually developing my activity as a singing teacher in addition to performing. In the next ten years I would like to contribute to singing pedagogy with my research and my background. I am also very happy writing my blog www.labrujuladelcanto.com
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
I thing life is about equilibrium and we need to include family, work, love, friends and all that makes us happy.
What is your present state of mind?
Quite and reflective.
